"Used To Be" copyright 2005
Used to be all I needed, was an old six-string guitar
With 2 pick-ups, a whammy bar,
and a 12 watt amp made by Silvertone.
I used to think all I wanted was to hold her in my arms.
In the back seat at the drive-in show, till it got so late that we had to go.
Those were things so important, I just couldn't live without
Life went on, and people changed
But there was never any doubt.
The only things that I needed, were a new six-string guitar
And a bigger amp with tremolo,
so all the girls would scream when I'd do my shows.
Along the way I decided, there were demons I must drown.
Such a wasted life, and wasted love, things were lookin' pretty dark
For ten long years all I wanted was to buy another round
And another round, And another round, And another round and round
So I sold my old six-string, and I gave my amp away.
Turned deep inside, shut the door. And I stayed there day by day
Not a thing was important. Nothing mattered anymore.
Seemed like I could do, was to lay there on the floor.
So I got up on my knees, and I said a little prayer
I need help. can you hear me ? IS THERE ANYBODY THERE?
LEAD Break
The sun came in, late one morning, and I opened up my eyes.
It's a brand new day, and I've got to say , that i think I've seen the light.
All those things that I wanted, All the wasted years gone by .
I felt hope deep down inside me, then I came to realize.
The only things that I needed, were an old six-string guitar.
This woman here, with her precious love, and this feeling in my heart.
As I look back on my lifetime and I guess I'd have to say
The only things I really needed, were right here every day
